Our school came alive with excitement as we celebrated International Literacy Day on September 12, 2025. This year’s theme, “Across Time and Tales,” reminded us that literacy is a powerful bridge connecting the past, present, and future. It is through reading and writing that we learn from history, enjoy stories, and imagine possibilities yet to come.
The celebration was a school-wide event that involved students, teachers, and staff working together to make the day meaningful. The classrooms were transformed into vibrant spaces filled with creativity, knowledge, and the spirit of learning. Everyone had the opportunity to participate in activities designed not only to entertain but also to inspire a deeper love for literacy.
The purpose of holding this special day was to emphasize that literacy goes beyond the ability to read and write. Literacy is about understanding, expressing, and connecting. It equips students to explore different cultures, perspectives, and stories from across time.
To bring this theme to life, a variety of engaging activities were organized. Students participated in a Trivia Quiz that tested their knowledge about books, stories, and authors. The quiz created a lively atmosphere as teams eagerly competed, showcasing their memory and love for reading. It was a fun way to discover new facts and appreciate the rich world of literature.
Another highlight of the celebration was the Readers’ Theater, where students brought stories to life through expressive reading and performance. This activity encouraged teamwork and creativity as students used their voices and actions to make characters and scenes more vivid. Watching classmates perform gives everyone a sense of how stories transcend the written page and become experiences that can be shared and enjoyed together.
Art and inspiration blended beautifully in the Quote Book Poster Making activity. Students selected meaningful quotes from books and authors, then expressed these words visually through colorful posters. The posters became works of art that captured the power of words and ideas.
For those who love writing, the Flash Fiction activity provided a challenge and a thrill. Students were asked to create short but powerful stories within a limited word count. The results were creative, witty, and often thought-provoking.
The day ended with joy and reflection. Students left inspired, not only because they had fun but also because they realized the importance of cherishing literacy every day. Teachers reminded them that literacy is a lifelong journey, one that connects us with people, cultures, and ideas across time and tales.
This year’s International Literacy Day celebration was more than just an event—it was a reminder that reading and writing are timeless treasures, empowering us to dream, create, and make a difference in the world.
