Dolan Nang Gloria: A Special Commemoration of Heroes' Day at Gloria 1 Christian Junior High School

There is something unique about the commemoration of Heroes' Day at Gloria 1 Christian Junior High School this year. The Heroes' Day, which is commemorated every November, was celebrated in collaboration with schools, students and also parents. The activity began with a flag ceremony which was attended by all students and teachers. Students were invited to remember and respect the struggles of heroes in the past and emulate the fighting spirit and love of the country of the heroes.

The commemoration of Heroes' Day did not stop with the flag ceremony, since the excitement of the event had just begun. The hall of Gloria 1 Christian Junior School seemed to have been transformed into a room resembling the 1945 era. Various decorations which showed the struggling period adorned every corner of the room. With the theme "Dolan Nang Gloria", the school hall was filled with various interesting treats made by students and parents. First, students were invited to watch hero-themed films to instill the fighting spirit inherited by Indonesian Heroes and to instill a sense of love for the country.

The activity was then continued with talent show with the theme "Local Wisdom" for grade 7 as the implementation of the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5). The talent shows display included ludruk, dance, and fashion shows. Interestingly, the fashion show presented was not merely an ordinary one. In this event, students showed clothes that they made by themselves. Performances from extracurriculars such as kolintang, band, ensemble, story telling, karate, dance and hip-hop also enlivened the event.

While enjoying the performances, visitors could also enjoy the various choices of food and games available in the bazaar. Parents were directly involved in serving buyers at the food bazaar while the visitors were very enthusiastic about trying a variety of food menus and games provided. The commemoration of Heroes' Day this time has given a special impression to students and parents. Students can get to know the history of the heroes' struggles in a way that is fun and in line with current developments. It is hoped that the younger generation will continue to have a sense of love for their country and a spirit of perseverance even though they live in today's modern era.
